The Iveys: Overview

The Iveys: "The Iveys" was a tribute to Buddy Holly. As in The Holly And The Ivy Christmas carol. It coincidentally recalled a street in their native Swansea, Wales. Contrary to reports, it wasn't a "holly and ivy" corollary to rivals The Hollies, who were also just starting out.

By the time they signed to the infant Apple label in 1968, a name like The Iveys was looking dated. This hadn't stopped The Hollies from making it big by then, or indeed (both named with Holly in mind). The Iveys also risked confusion with and they became Badfinger.
