The Bee Gees: The name variously has been explained as coming from any or all of the following:
- From "The Brothers Gibb" - Barry, Maurice and Robin - who were born in the United Kingdom but partly brought up in Australia. They were billed as The Bee Gees (Brothers Gibb) Comedy Trio in Brisbane, Queensland in 1962.
- From Barry's initials. He's several years older than the others and was the early band leader.
- From speedway driver and promoter Bill Gates, who spotted the trio singing at a race track.
- From local Aussie deejay Bill Goode, who also championed their music.
- From the musical notes used in their early close-harmony style in Brisbane, Queensland.
The correct answer's that they were always The Bee Gees (Brothers Gibb): it was good fortune that Gates and Goode had the same initials so there was no renaming required. It's preferable to two alternative choices - Rattlesnakes and Wee Johnny Hays and the Blue Cats.
