Hüsker Dü: This critically lauded American mid-1980s band from Minnesota began playing together in 1982. One of their first jam sessions was spent trying cover versions. First they did Ramones songs and then they tried a rough take on Psycho Killer by Talking Heads. Bob Mould and his fellow group members could not remember the foreign language phrase in the chorus ("Qu'est-ce que c'est?"). Instead they began shouting any other foreign phrases they could think of. One of them said "Hüsker Dü" and the others said, "What?"
Hüsker Dü (note the accents) is a Scandinavian game first published in Denmark and then Sweden in the 1950s before being exported under its original name, and in translation, to Britain and the U.S. in the 1970s. The game is meant to encourage memory and means "Do you remember?" in Danish and Norwegian.
Mould said it was mysterious and set them aside from other hardcore punk bands with political names.
