Heaven 17: Overview
Heaven 17: The name comes from the novel A Clockwork Orange, the 1962 bleak vision of Anthony Burgess (19171993), filmed in 1971 by Stanley Kubrick. Burgess may well have been adapting the phrase "seventh heaven".
The anti-hero lists some bands liked by future teenagers. "These young devotchkas had their own like way of govoreeting. 'The Heaven Seventeen? Luke Stern? Goggly Gogol?'" On the opposite page, the hero, Alex, lists "the new pop-discs - Johnny Burnaway, Stash Kroh, The Mixers, Lay Quiet Awhile With Ed and Id Molotov". Cf The Mixers.
