Fleetwood Mac: CDs & DVDs - The Best CDs & DVDs of Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac: Overview

Fleetwood Mac: When quit John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, he was replaced with a shy lad from London's East End called Peter Green (born Greenbaum). Like Clapton, he was unhappy with the adulation. Mayall gave him some studio time as a "cheer up" birthday present in 1967.

Green cut an instrumental called Fleetwood Mac, named from his two recording colleagues: fellow Bluesbreakers Mick Fleetwood, the drummer and bassist John McVie. Wanting to hide his identity, Green nominated the tune's title as the group name. He was annoyed when it was credited to "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac". While he got his way on this later, he had quit by 1970.

Fleetwood and Mac have stayed throughout dozens of other personal and style changes. The appellation almost went amid legal action over its ownership in 1974 when their manager put together a "fake" band to play concert bookings.
