Fairport Convention: Overview
Fairport Convention: 1967: the tale starts at a home in Fortis Green, North London - a large house that then had a general medical practice on the ground floor with the rest let to lodgers. It was owned by a widow of one of the doctors, who allowed her son Simon's band to rehearse in the attic. The woman was called Mrs Nicol, her son was guitarist Simon, the house was called Fairport, and Simon's group became Fairport Convention. Fairport is still there, a small part of rock history.
1976: The band name was briefly abbreviated to Fairport after years informally being called such.
