Boy George: British George Alan O'Dowd had given "G.O.D." as his initials for years. The "Boy" was partly to indicate what sex the gender-bender night-clubber really was: cf (Boy) Marilyn. "I also liked the idea of playing with sexual ambiguity."
He was later sometimes billed simply as "George". Culture Club, Sex Gang Children, Lieutenant Lush.
Unflattering derivative: Boy Gorge. This was bestowed on the Boy by his friends in his St. John's Wood days – the author was a neighbour: George would go out for a walk, dodging the fans, and return home with bags of cakes, crisps and chocolate.
