He blindly stuck a pin in a map of the United States and came up with Bay City. There's confusion as to whether his pin found the Bay City, Oregon, Texas or Rochester, Michigan - but most suspect the latter, the birthplace of Madonna. It recalled both surf music and The Rolling Stones.
