Bachman-Turner Overdrive: They initially considered the name Brave Belt - as worn by American Indians to indicate success as a hunter and fighter. Their record company complained this was obscure and they should play up links with The Guess Who.
Their surnames were Bachman (Randy, ex Guess Who; Robbie; and later Tim) and Turner (bassist C.F. 'Fred' Turner). They spotted Canadian truckers' magazine Overdrive which suited their top-gear rock and carried the concept through with a logo of a gearwheel. The name was often abbreviated to BTO.
